The Three-Way Switch has a single-break contact connected to an arm (toggle) which when thrown, breaks a normally closed circuit and makes a normally open circuit. When the toggle is released, the contacts remain in their new state.

Two of the three terminal switches can be connected to control one load from two locations. When used in this manner, it is called a three-way switch.
