The Star (Wye)/Delta Starter is designed to start the Four-Pole Squirrel-Cage Induction Motor, Model 8503, or Three-Phase Wound-Rotor Induction Motor, Model 8505, directly from the ac power network via the star (wye)/delta connection. It includes two magnetic contactors, a variable overload relay, a time-delay relay, and push-buttons that start and stop the motor. The control circuit connects the windings of the motor in a star (wye) configuration to start the motor. A short time lag follows the starting instant, while the windings are connected in a delta configuration to run the motor. Pilot lamps indicate power and starting conditions. A circuit breaker protects the control circuit and automatically stops the machine in the event of an overload.
